The Roman Wall

Sooner or later, if you are walking around Cirencester, you have to start doing  the "big" sites.  Today I'm ticking off the exposed section of the Roman Wall, just inside the Abbey Grounds.

Here it is:

This formidable defensive wall originally stood 20 feet high, with a walkway and parapet on top. Stone towers were built at intervals (see above) , and bastions projected from the face of the wall (below).
